Pedodontics is a dental science focusing on the treatment of children. The restoration and maintenance of primary and permanent dentitions; assisting in the prevention of dental caries and periodontal disease; and correction of occlusion are its main objectives. This department was initiated in 1984 and treats children from infancy to the age of 14 yrs. The unit is headed by the enterprising Dr. A. R. Prabhakar. At Bapuji Dental College and Hospital we encourage children to get an early start when it comes to oral health. Our department leads the pack, in the development and implementation of innovative new treatments for childhood illness and injury. We ensure the highest quality of care for our young patients. In the year 1987 the postgraduate unit in Pedodontia and preventive dentistry commenced and has increased its intake from two postgraduates to six postgraduates per year.

We have tried to create a casual environment for the benefit of patients, with colorful posters, dolls, cartoon characters as well as a flow tank that adorns the department walls. Apart from this, it is well endowed with the latest equipment to facilitate a more efficient treatment thereby providing appropriate training to the budding dentists. The undergraduate clinic caters to basic exodontia, simple restorations, oral prophylaxis and oral hygiene instructions, pit and fissure sealants and topical application of fluorides. The input for the out patient department ranges from 20-25 per day. The clinic includes twenty dental chairs with separate equipment and sterilization bay. Seminars and group discussions are conducted for proper interaction and molding of the novice.
